"Money Heist" Season 1 follows the meticulous plan of a criminal mastermind known as "The Professor" to carry out the greatest heist in history. The Professor recruits eight talented criminals, each with their own unique skills, and assigns them codenames based on cities: Tokyo, Berlin, Nairobi, Rio, Moscow, Denver, Helsinki, and Oslo.
The story begins with Tokyo narrating how she got involved in the heist. She was a young woman on the run, having committed a robbery with her boyfriend, Rio. After their escape, they were pursued by the police, leading them to the Professor's hideout. The Professor offers them a chance to join his ambitious plan and disappear forever.
The group is tasked with infiltrating the Royal Mint of Spain, where they plan to print billions of euros by taking hostages and outwitting the police. To ensure their success, they undergo rigorous training and adopt their assigned codenames.
The Professor's plan relies heavily on manipulation and deception. The robbers are instructed to wear red jumpsuits and use codenames to conceal their identities. They take hostages, including the Mint's staff, to negotiate their demands with the authorities. Inside the Mint, they are led by Berlin, who asserts his dominance and maintains control over the hostages.
As the heist unfolds, the robbers face various challenges. They encounter resistance from some of the hostages, conflicts arise within their own group, and the police, led by Inspector Raquel Murillo, gradually tighten their grip around the Mint. Raquel becomes suspicious of a former colleague, Angel, who may have ties to the robbers.
Throughout the heist, the robbers develop complex relationships. Tokyo develops a romantic connection with Rio, while Berlin becomes intrigued by Ariadna, one of the hostages. Nairobi becomes a prominent figure in leading the hostages, gaining their trust and sympathy.
The tension escalates when Moscow sacrifices himself to save his son, Denver, after Denver falls in love with a hostage named Monica, who later becomes known as Stockholm. The Professor, watching from the outside, is devastated by Moscow's death but encourages the group to push forward.
In a twist, the Professor's true identity is revealed to be Sergio Marquina, a former professor and criminal mastermind. Raquel, who has developed feelings for the Professor, discovers this secret but is conflicted between her loyalty to the police force and her growing affection for him.
As the heist nears its end, the robbers manage to print the money, but their escape plan is compromised. The police force launches an assault on the Mint, resulting in a shootout and chaos. Amidst the chaos, Berlin sacrifices himself to buy time for the others to escape. The remaining group members successfully flee, leaving behind Raquel, who has realized her feelings for Sergio.
In the final moments of Season 1, the group splits up, and Tokyo continues narrating the story. The surviving members of the heist go their separate ways, planning to reunite later to carry out the second phase of the Professor's plan.
"Money Heist" Season 1 concludes with the Professor and Raquel rendezvousing at a secluded hideout, their futures uncertain, but their love and loyalty tested in the face of the impending danger that awaits them.
